After Google Penguin world of SEO has changed, nothing is as before.
The techniques of low-level, such as directory submissions in general, if already had been strongly devalutate, now are next to useless.
But we can give wrong with Google?
I would say no, who now uses the old directories, remnant of the pre-search engines?
I think anyone, all open Google and look beyond what they need, and if they see a directory the old-style jump and just is not what they are looking for.
The old directories now use them only to make SEO link building low-level, but even this practice has now been rendered completely ineffective by the combined action of the last two updates to Google's algorithm, ie, the Panda (which has devalued so much directories for their poor content) and the Penguin, who punished the sites that have links from them, or has taken almost all power, thus lowering their rankings in favor of other sites linking more natural.
But these are just some of the factors that have been completely revolutionized in the last month. Indeed, also known as over-or over-optimization seo, widgets and footer links, SEO NEGATIVE, parked domains and much more ... Google is changing many things at once, so many that it is often difficult to figure out which update has been affected or advantaged.
In fact, every case is different and Penguin has not always done a great job, as written in this interesting article on WebProNews that shows how a site with great social popularity (+10,000 likes of facebook, +15,000 followers on Twitter, etc ...) has been hit by the Penguins, probably because it has distributed free to its users a theme and a widget for Wordpress with a link to their site. This type of links have been taken very targeted, often unfairly because they come from old themes and widgets created even before the invention of the rel = "nofollow".
This poses a big problem for those who must manage the visibility of a site with a long history.
Even links of 5-6 years or more, which until recently were passing "link juice" (power) now maybe they are having a great disadvantage.
The OLD SEO is dead, long live SEO NEW!
At this point, the activities best be made:
LINK PROFILING
It 's the first step to see if you have the "clear conscience" and not take risks for the future. It is basically to obtain the profile of the backlinks of your site, ie the list of sites / urls that link to you.
After the "death" yahoo showed that almost all the backlinks for free, new alternatives to explore their links are with his SEOmoz Opensiteexplorer , MajesticSEO and, not that the most complete free Google Webmaster Tools , as also written to use this 'Finally, you must demonstrate that they have access and ownership of the site by placing a file in your domain, or using other means of verification, but should absolutely do it because you might have some unpleasant messages from Google that await you ...
Majestic also allows you to have a free report if you check backlinks on the site, do not miss it, go to free reports!
Actually there are other tools that I use for backlinks profiling, but speak of these very early in the new blog I'm Creado purpose and that will be called WM Tools Reviews , now empty but wait a few days.
But back to us: to demonstrate the differences in results of the three tools, here's a practical example of what appeared to me looking for backlinks of a site:
Open Site Explorer 785 unique domains that link to your site
Majestic 746 unique domains that link to your site
Google Webmaster Tools 1249 unique domains that link to your site
As you can see, the difference is remarkable. Besides, with all the datacenters that, who better than Google can know the backlinks of a site?
Pruning LINK
After that one has in hand a list of backlinks of your site, you can go to the actual cleaning, even "pruning" of bad links, as in English was called "pruning".
It's about understanding which links are good and which are best removed by contacting the webmasters if needed and follow basic guidelines such as these , coming from the blog of Bruce Clay, a noted expert in the field.
The link pruning certainly deserves a more thorough discussion, because it changes case by case, maybe I will cover this in any subsequent intervention.
Little tip: if you have cleaned up the links of your sites, you can go to google webmaster tools and make "fetch as Googlebot" followed by a nice "Resubmit to index". In case you have removed the links site-wide (all pages on the site, or column in the footer for example), select the option to re-send all the pages in Google. This should accelelare the crawling, ie the passage of the Googlebot, and speed up the whole process.
LINK Prospecting
Among the "new terms" appeared recently in the world of SEO there is also this, especially important if you have done a lot of cleaning links: in this case, your site may suffer from lack of links and consequently decrease their positions.
Here there is only one remedy: an injection of fresh links QUALITY '.
To do this, now it makes a nice "prospecting link" which is nothing more than the sum of techniques aimed at creating backlinks high quality, dedicated and highly customized searches, which become more and more to build relationships, rather than in complete Automatic modules.
To make a good link for a prospecting site must analyze all the possibilities of links, and these vary from time to time. Soon I will write some practical case, just to give a concrete example.
You have great intuition and imagination to work, but there are some standard steps that can be applied to all, here are a couple:
- analyze the backlinks of the opponents (and try to get the same good links, avoiding the baddies!)
- assess whether the site can be entered in any association or portal based on its argument (for businesses, always ask for a link to the website of its chamber of commerce, associations of which you are a member, portals to the region and province, etc. ... )
- technology to analyze the site and enroll in the portals, if possible (sites showcase CMS like Joomla or Drupal Sites with HTML / CSS validated , sites developed in HTML5 , etc ...)
- ... And many other similar techniques.
But these are mid-level technical, not too advanced (also depends on how they performed, largely the former).
The best technique is always only one: to create good content and spread them in the right way!
So you will make everyone happy: your visitors, Google and yourself!
